A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a travel ban on Moazzem Hossain, former assistant personal secretary to former adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order after CID Sub‑Inspector Md Abdul Hannan filed a petition seeking the restriction, court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed.
The petition stated that Moazzem had sought permission to travel to Thailand for medical treatment. However, while serving as APS to the interim government’s Local Government and Sports Ministry adviser, he allegedly amassed crores of taka through lobbying, tender manipulation, and extortion.
Investigators further alleged that he laundered the money abroad, acquiring properties in the UAE, Canada, the United States, and other countries. As he could leave the country at any time, they argued that preventing his travel until the inquiry is complete is essential for a fair investigation.
Accordingly, the court directed the Special Superintendent (Immigration) of Bangladesh Police Special Branch, Dhaka, to enforce the ban until the investigation concludes.
Earlier, on 24 May last year, the same court had blocked Moazzem’s national ID card and imposed a travel ban following an application by the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC).
