Police recovered the bodies of a couple from their home in Paharpur area of Safapur union under Mohadevpur upazila in Naogaon on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Lokman Mondal, 55, and his wife Delwara Begum, 45.
According to locals, the couple went to bed after dinner on Sunday night. Around 4am on Monday, their son, Muktar Hossain, informed neighbours, who found the bodies lying on the bed.
Locals alleged that Muktar is addicted to drugs and mobile gambling and suspect he may have given his parents a poisonous substance after they refused to give him money.
Mohadevpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruq said the bodies were sent to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
“It is initially suspected that their deaths were caused by consuming something poisonous,” the OC added.
He said the exact cause of death will be determined following the autopsy report.
