BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the election atmosphere has begun to take shape across the country.

Speaking at an exchange of views with lawyers in Thakurgaon, he said Bangladesh is now moving toward a phase of democratic transition.

He noted that the likely election schedule has already been announced and most political parties have begun declaring their candidates.

He expressed hope that the polls would be held in the first half of February without any trouble.

Fakhrul said the law-and-order situation remains favourable and that there is no indication of any circumstance that could disrupt the upcoming election.

Addressing questions about multiple BNP aspirants vying for nomination in nearly every constituency, he said the party is a large political organisation, and having four to five contenders in each seat is normal and has always been the case. He said this does not create any problem for the party.
