State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor on Saturday said infrastructure development in Pirojpur had been hampered during the previous government’s tenure due to corruption, assuring that delayed projects would now be implemented swiftly.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion and prize distribution ceremony marking International Mother Language Day at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Pirojpur around 11:30am.
“We were deprived of development in various ways during the previous regime.Due to different forms of corruption over the past one and a half years, many infrastructure projects could not be carried out. Those works must now be completed quickly with zero tolerance toward corruption,” the state minister said.
He noted that the government has already taken several initiatives and would soon outline key programmes under its 180-day action plan.
Referring to election pledges, he said projects such as the introduction of upazila-based family cards would be launched soon.
Highlighting the significance of preserving linguistic integrity, he said, “We want enrichment, not distortion, of our language. Proper and dignified use of Bangla must be ensured everywhere, including on social media platforms.”
The event was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Abu Sayeed.
Among the special guests were Member of Parliament for Pirojpur-1 Masud Sayeedi and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Monjur Ahmed Siddiqui.
Leaders of various political, social and cultural organisations also attended the programme.
