A police constable died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a four-storey barracks building at the Bandarban Police Line on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Rashedul Islam, 28, who was serving at the police line. Police said he allegedly jumped from the rooftop in what appeared to be a suspected suicide attempt.
Rashedul was first taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital with critical injuries and later transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened. He died there at night.
Bandarban Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah Kausar confirmed the incident. Police sources said Rashedul sustained severe injuries, and doctors attributed his death to excessive blood loss.
Rashedul hailed from Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district. While the hospital confirmed his death, the district police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of the fall.
