Police have confirmed that the person arrested is not Mobarak Hossain Imon, known as David Imon, a close associate of top criminal “Borro Sajjad”, even though reports of his arrest spread in Chattogram.
On Monday night, information about David Imon’s arrest circulated widely on Facebook and other social media platforms.
In reality, police arrested another warrant‑listed accused named Mohammad Imon in Chattogram’s Raozan.
A viral photocard on Facebook claimed David Imon was arrested from Room 91 of the Amari Dhaka hotel in Gulshan under orders of the CMP commissioner. However, police dismissed the claim as “false” and termed it a “conspiracy.”
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam told Times of Bangladesh, “We did not arrest Mobarak Hossain Imon alias ‘David Iman.’ We conducted an operation in Dhaka’s Gulshan, but no one named Imon was arrested.”
Police sources identified the arrested man as Mohammad Imon, son of Mohammad Elias of Ward‑3, Dabua Union‑2, Raozan. He is a convicted accused in a case with an arrest warrant.
Raozan Police Station Officer-in-charge Saiful Islam confirmed the arrest and said he is being sent to court.
Mobarak Hossain Imon is from Kanchannagar in Fatikchhari, Chattogram and accused in at least seven cases, including the Baklia double murder in 2025 and the killing of “Dhakaiya Akbar” at Patenga the same year.
Intelligence reports say he runs Sajjad Ali’s criminal network in Chattogram while Sajjad remains abroad. Though his social media shows him in Dubai, speculation about his whereabouts persists.
CMP Assistant Commissioner (media) Aminur Rashid said, “A photocard was spread at night which is false. I directly asked the commissioner, and he confirmed it is not true.”
Police suspect the false arrest claim may be part of a planned “conspiracy” to mislead or divert attention from the real terrorist.
According to the authorities, the man arrested in Raozan has no connection to David Imon. The confusion arose solely due to the similarity in names.
