The withholding tax rate on interest earned from treasury bills and bonds has been raised to 15% from 10% for the company taxpayers, which remained unchanged at 10% for the individuals.

The change was made through the 52nd ordinance of 2025 to amend the Income Tax Act 2023, communicated on Monday. National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials said that the change will not have any impact on individual taxpayers.

However, companies generally make larger investments in treasury bills and bonds and their tax expenses will increase.

The withholding tax deducted by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for commercial vehicles will now be considered as final tax.

Commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks, lorries, taxis, and prime movers will no longer need to pay additional tax beyond this deduction.
