Global shipping company CMA CGM Group/CNC Line has commended the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) for its swift and coordinated response in rescuing the container vessel MV CNC Uranus, which became stranded in the port’s navigation channel due to a mechanical failure.
In a letter of appreciation addressed to the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority, the French shipping group lauded the port’s prompt emergency response and the professionalism of the officials involved in the complex salvage operation.
The letter, dated 4 August, was jointly signed by CMA CGM Group/CNC Line Vice President (QSSE) Moreau Xavier and Managing Director (CCISC) François-Xavier Accard, CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said.
According to the letter, the shipping line highly appreciated the prompt action taken by the port authority to manage the emergency, describing the operation as well-coordinated and efficiently executed despite challenging conditions.
CMA CGM also praised the dedication and professionalism of the CPA’s Marine Department, paying special tribute to the Harbour Master, Dock Master, senior pilots and other marine personnel for their leadership and commitment throughout the rescue mission.
The company further expressed its gratitude to the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Coast Guard for their active support and direct participation in the high-risk salvage operation.
Describing the successful recovery as a reflection of Chattogram Port’s strong operational capability, the shipping line said the incident demonstrated the port’s ability to respond effectively to maritime emergencies while maintaining international standards.
The company noted that the operation had further strengthened its confidence in the professionalism and reliability of Bangladesh’s premier seaport.
It also expressed interest in expanding its longstanding cooperation and partnership with the Chattogram Port Authority and Bangladesh’s maritime sector in the years ahead.
The MV CNC Uranus became stranded in the Chattogram Port channel following a mechanical failure.
After an overnight joint operation carried out by the Chattogram Port Authority, the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Coast Guard, the vessel was successfully refloated and safely anchored on 4 August, enabling normal vessel movement and port operations to resume.
