Administrator of Chittagong City Corporation, Shahadat Hossain has said that there is no alternative to establishing a city government to build Chattogram as an aesthetic, clean, green, healthy, safe and smart city.
He made the comments while addressing a seminar titled “Chattogram: Economic Gateway and Lifeline of Bangladesh”, organised by the Commonwealth Journalists Association, Bangladesh Chapter at the World Trade Centre hall in Chattogram on Friday.
Presided over by Parveen F Chowdhury, president of the organisation, the keynote paper at the seminar was presented by Amirul Haque, president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Belayet Hossain, engineer of the Chattogram Development Authority, alongside other relevant individuals took part in the discussion.
Due to the lack of effective coordination and an integrated framework among various government agencies involved in urban development, delays are occurring in implementing many promising projects. Establishing a city government to manage urban planning, infrastructure development, land management, transport, environmental protection and civic services under a unified plan is now the need of the hour, Shahadat said.
All agencies involved in civic services, including the CCC, Chattogram Development Authority, WASA, Water Development Board, district administration and police administration, need to be brought under an integrated framework, he added.
