Citizens Bank PLC has held the first meeting of its Shari’ah Supervisory Committee at the bank’s head office in Dhaka as it prepares to launch Islamic banking services, the bank said in a press statement.
The meeting, held recently, was chaired by chairman of the Shari’ah Supervisory Committee Mohammad Abdus Samad.
The committee reviewed and approved all guidelines, policies and PPG prepared for Islamic banking operations, including Shari’ah compliance, service quality enhancement, investment management and operational procedures for Shari’ah-compliant products and services.
Muhammad Abu Yusuf and Muinul Islam, members of the committee, were also present at the meeting.
Managing director of Citizens Bank PLC Alamgir Hossain attended the meeting. Deputy managing directors of the bank Md Mostafizur Rahman and Md Abdul Latif were also present.
Head of Islamic Banking Division Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Shikder joined the meeting along with other officials of the division.
The committee members expressed satisfaction with the bank’s overall preparedness and the strategic initiatives undertaken for launching Islamic banking services.
They said they hoped Citizens Bank’s Islamic banking operations would make a meaningful contribution to the growth and development of the Islamic banking industry in Bangladesh.
The committee also expressed hope that Citizens Bank Islamic Banking would emerge as a trusted provider of Shari’ah-compliant banking services.
The meeting marks an important step for Citizens Bank as it works to introduce products and services aligned with Islamic banking principles, covering compliance, investment management, service quality and operational procedures.
