Police recovered the sack-bound body of a five-year-old girl from a septic tank at a secondary school in Badurgacha village of Kaliganj Upazila on Thursday morning, a day after she went missing.

The deceased was identified as Tabassum, daughter of Nazrul Islam of Bhairaba area in Maheshpur upazila.

Police said Nazrul Islam had been living with his family for several months in a rented house in Badedihi village under the Barobazar area, where he works at a tailoring shop and his wife Halima Khatun is employed at Wave Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.

Nazrul Islam said his daughter had been missing since around 2:30pm on Wednesday and that he filed a general diary with the police at night after searching in different places and failing to find her.

He demanded that the mystery be uncovered swiftly and that those responsible for killing his “little daughter” be brought to justice.

Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jellal Hossain said a local farmer, Abdul Jabbar, spotted a blood-stained sack inside the school’s septic tank on Thursday morning and informed local residents.

He said the farmer operates a shallow machine in the field and used to keep the machine’s starter handle and grease in a bag hidden beside the septic tank, and discovered the sack while going there to retrieve the bag.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
