A 10-year-old boy named Tamim Hossain was seriously injured after a suspected crude bomb exploded in the Bihari Camp area of Mirpur-1 on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 10am near the Ansar Camp in the capital’s Mirpur area. Tamim, a student of a local madrasa, reportedly found the object while playing near a garbage dump adjacent to the Bihari Para mosque.
Believing it to be a toy, Tamim and a few other children brought it back to play with. The object later exploded, causing severe injuries to Tamim’s right abdomen and arm.
Tamim’s mother Nargis Akhter said she had left for work earlier in the morning, leaving Tamim at home since his madrasa was closed for the day. Upon returning home around 10:30am, she found a large crowd outside and learned about the incident.
Tamim was initially rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirming the incident said the boy was undergoing treatment at the emergency department. His condition is reported to be critical, he added.
The incident has been reported to the local police station. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
