Liverpool show resolve in Milan
Liverpool’s 1–0 win at Inter set the tone. Dominik Szoboszlai’s 88th minute penalty, awarded after Alessandro Bastoni tripped Florian Wirtz, ended Inter’s long unbeaten home run in Europe and gave Arne Slot a much needed lift after a turbulent spell for the club.
With Mohamed Salah absent, Szoboszlai assumed responsibility from the spot and delivered. “Tonight it should be about the team,” Slot said, deflecting questions about Salah. Virgil van Dijk insisted Liverpool must “stick together and be a unit”.
It was Liverpool’s fourth straight win at San Siro and their first Champions League away victory without Salah since 2009.
Atalanta expose Chelsea’s fragility
Chelsea let a valuable lead slip in Bergamo as Atalanta fought back to win 2–1. Joao Pedro opened the scoring, but second half goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere punished Chelsea’s hesitancy.
The defeat drops Enzo Maresca’s side to 11th in the league phase. Maresca defended his rotation choices, yet Chelsea’s form remains a concern, with the side now winless in four.
Kounde inspires Barcelona at Camp Nou
Barcelona marked their Champions League return to Camp Nou with a 2–1 comeback over Eintracht Frankfurt. Ansgar Knauff struck first, but Jules Kounde turned the match with two headers in quick succession, the first supplied by Marcus Rashford moments after his introduction.
It was Barcelona’s fourth straight win since returning to their redeveloped stadium, which is still operating at reduced capacity.
Bayern look assured as Karl continues rise
Lennart Karl, 17, scored for the third consecutive Champions League match as Bayern Munich recovered from Joshua Kimmich’s own goal to beat Sporting CP 3–1. Serge Gnabry equalised, Karl finished calmly to give Bayern the lead and Jonathan Tah added a late third. The win moves Bayern level with Arsenal at the top of the table, although they have played a game more.
Greenwood leads Marseille through chaotic contest
Marseille survived a frantic match in Belgium to defeat Union Saint Gilloise 3–2. Mason Greenwood scored twice and Igor Paixao added another, while Anan Khalaili’s brace kept the hosts in contention until the final minutes. A stoppage time header from Promise David nearly snatched a point, only for Geronimo Rulli to save Marseille.
Tottenham stroll, Monaco edge ahead, Atletico hold firm
Tottenham controlled their 3–0 win over Slavia Prague, scoring through David Zima’s own goal and penalties from Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons. Monaco edged Galatasaray 1–0 thanks to Florian Balogun after Denis Zakaria had missed a penalty. Atletico Madrid claimed a first away win of the campaign, beating PSV 3–2 in a match full of momentum swings.
Olympiacos also collected their first win of the competition, defeating Kairat Almaty 1–0 as Gelson Martins struck and Temirlan Anarbekov impressed in goal for the hosts.
