- The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has welcomed China’s renewed interest in supporting a high-speed rail link between Dhaka and Chattogram, saying the project could serve as a catalyst for broader Chinese investment in Bangladesh’s industrial and infrastructure sectors.
In a statement issued on Sunday, CCCI President Mohammed Amirul Haque thanked Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen for reiterating Beijing’s willingness to cooperate in developing a bullet train along the Dhaka-Chattogram economic corridor and for actively considering greater market access for Bangladeshi products in China.
Haque said China has long been Bangladesh’s largest trading partner and one of its most important development partners, contributing through growing investment, technology transfer and participation in major infrastructure projects.
He said stronger Chinese engagement could accelerate investment in infrastructure, green energy, manufacturing, the steel industry, readymade garment backward linkage industries, technology transfer, regional connectivity and agriculture, creating mutual economic benefits for both countries.
The chamber president also urged the Chinese envoy to encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Chattogram, citing the city’s strategic location and growing role as an industrial and international multimodal logistics hub serving Bangladesh and the wider region.
The statement comes as Bangladesh seeks to attract more foreign direct investment and deepen economic ties with China while pursuing large-scale infrastructure projects to support trade, industrialisation and export growth.
