A month after her sudden passing, Catherine O’Hara has been posthumously recognised at the 32nd Actor Awards for her outstanding performance in the comedy series ‘The Studio’.
O’Hara, who died aged 71 on January 30 from a blood clot in the lungs, was awarded Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series on Sunday. The announcement at the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles was met with a standing ovation from the audience, celebrating her remarkable career.
Seth Rogen, co-creator of The Studio, accepted the award on her behalf. He spoke fondly of O’Hara as a collaborator, recalling her habit of sending thoughtful scene suggestions the night before filming. “She showed that you could be a genius and still be kind,” Rogen said.
Rogen also encouraged those unfamiliar with her work to witness her brilliance, citing iconic performances such as dancing to Harry Belafonte in Beetlejuice and hobbling across the screen in Best in Show. “We were lucky to live in a world where she so generously shared her talents with us,” he added.
The Studio also secured awards for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor in a Comedy Series, with Rogen himself recognised for his role. In the show, O’Hara played the movie executive Patty Leigh, a performance that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
