National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam has appealed the High Court order clearing the candidacy of MA Quayum, challenging the validity of the latter’s candidacy over allegations of foreign citizenship and concealment of information.

Sources indicate that a hearing on the application could take place in the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division on Sunday.

Earlier, on 3 February, the High Court had dismissed a writ petition filed challenging the validity of the candidacy ofMA Quayum. Subsequently, Nahid filed an appeal in the relevant branch of the Appellate Division against the order of the High Court that had dismissed the writ petition.

Lawyers Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Zahirul Islam Musa appeared for the petitioner during the hearing in court while Ahsanul Karim and Ruhul Quddus Kajal appeared for the BNP-nominated candidate.

Nahid Islam alleges that the Election Commission validated the BNP-nominated candidate’s nomination paper without properly investigating the allegations of foreign citizenship and concealment of information that had been raised.
