Prime Minister Tarique Rahman spent an “exceptional” time with children at the daycare centre located in the Bhumi Bhaban in Tejgaon, Dhaka.
Following the inauguration ceremony of the three-day Land Service Fair-2026 (Bhumi Seba Mela) on Tuesday morning, Tarique visited the childcare facility established under the supervision of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Upon his arrival at the centre, children rushed to surround the prime minister in excitement. Some were heard exclaiming, “How fun, how fun! Uncle is very good, very sweet.”
Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain later noted that the children were so delighted to have the Prime Minister among them that they expressed their joy by encircling him.
The prime minister embraced the children and, noticing a cake prepared for the occasion, asked, “Tell me, whose birthday is it today?” When several children claimed it was their birthday, he replied, “Today is the birthday for all of you. Come, let us cut the cake together.”
Following the cake-cutting, he personally distributed chocolates, toffees, lollipops, and gift bags to the children.
A young child named Ariba shared her excitement, saying, “I cannot express how happy I am to see prime minister uncle. I had fun eating cake with uncle, and uncle ate cake too.”
The inauguration of the Land Service Fair took place on the third floor of the Bhumi Bhaban, after which Tarique proceeded to the daycare centre on the ground floor.
During the visit, official Mahia Tasnuv Tamanna briefed the Prime Minister on the care provided to the children, and the Prime Minister inquired about the specific types of food served at the facility.
Minister Professor AZM Zahid Hossain informed that the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs operates 20 such daycare centres across the country, including in Dhaka. These centres provide 10.5 hours of service daily to children aged between four and six years.
Currently, the Tejgaon daycare centre has 60 children enrolled, with 55 present during the Tuesday visit. Tarique spent 15 minutes with the children before departing the premises.
