Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has emphasised the need to transform Bangladesh’s post offices into effective platforms for development and economic inclusion.
In a message issued on Wednesday on the occasion of “World Post Day,” to be observed on 9 October, he said, “In the current context, it is urgent to transform post offices into effective platforms for development and economic inclusion, not just as centres for exchanging messages.”
Yunus highlighted that the Directorate of Posts is not only a government service provider, but also one of society’s oldest and most trusted institutions. Through its extensive network, he pointed out, post offices have the ability to reach even the most marginalized people in society.
The Chief Adviser noted that the interim government is working to modernize the Directorate of Posts and integrate it into the broader social and economic framework. He expressed hope that it would become an effective one-stop centre for the local economy, going beyond traditional postal services.
He suggested that post offices should be developed as community-based economic centres, providing diverse services such as e-commerce support, digital financial services, transportation and marketing assistance for small entrepreneurs, and information exchange for farmers and marginalized communities.
Yunus called for the cooperation of all Directorate of Posts staff and the public in this transformative journey. He also expressed satisfaction that ‘World Post Day’ is being celebrated with due importance in Bangladesh, just as it is worldwide.
He wished success with all the programmes organised for World Post Day.
