Three people were killed and at least 12 others suffered serious injuries in a road accident in Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram on Thursday night.
The accident took place around 8:30pm at Taltali under Bellapara Crossing in the Palli Bidyut area along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
Police said at least three people died on the spot and at least 12 others sustained critical injuries. They were sent to different hospitals for treatment.
Crossing Police Outpost officer Paritosh confirmed the casualty figures at the scene.
Eyewitness Tarek said Eagle Paribahan buses often run at reckless speed on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway. He said a bus collided head-on with a laguna around 8:30pm on Thursday. The impact left both vehicles badly damaged.
He added that passengers from both vehicles suffered severe injuries. He said laguna passengers remained in the most critical condition.
Locals rescued the injured immediately and sent them to different hospitals. The identities of the injured could not be confirmed at the time.
Crossing Police Outpost officer Helal Uddin said police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and started rescue operations. He added that the situation now remains under control.
