Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition during an operation in the Medinipur border area of Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga.
According to Maheshpur-58 BGB, a patrol team led by Naib Subedar Harun Or Rashid of Medinipur Camp went out on a routine anti-smuggling patrol at around 8:00pm on Tuesday.
While on duty, the team received information at approximately 8:40pm that a foreign pistol had been abandoned underground near a bamboo grove belonging to Abdul Gani, around 200 yards inside Bangladesh from Main Pillar-63 under the Medinipur BOP area of responsibility.
After informing higher authorities, the BGB team launched an operation at the spot. During the drive, members recovered an old but functional foreign-made 7.65 bore pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition loaded inside the magazine from beneath the ground.
BGB officials said the pistol bore the inscription “MADE IN ITALY”, while the ammunition was marked “KF 7.65”.
The recovered firearm and ammunition were seized at 9:05pm in the presence of witnesses after preparing a seizure list on the spot. The items were later taken into BGB custody.
Following completion of legal formalities, the recovered weapon and ammunition were deposited in the storeroom of Jibannagar Police Station through a general diary (GD).
Confirming the matter, Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sulaiman Sheikh said Naib Subedar Harun Or Rashid of 58 BGB’s Medinipur Camp filed a general diary at the police station at around 11:00pm on Tuesday and handed over the ownerless pistol.
He said legal procedures regarding the matter are currently underway.
