A Dhaka court has granted three-day remand to Sohel Rosario, prime accused in a case filed over the rape of a female student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate AKM Mahiuddin issued the order on Monday after hearing the case.
Earlier in the day, Abdul Wahab, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station, sought seven-day remand after producing the accused before the court.
After the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand. No lawyer was present on behalf of the accused. On Sunday, the same court granted two-day remand for Mithu Biswas, a co-accused in the rape case.
According to the case statement filed on October 16, the incident occurred on the evening of October 14. The victim returned home after tutoring a student in Savar and found her house locked.
She learned that her mother left the key with a nearby tea shop owner. While walking home after collecting the key, Sohel Rosario approached her and began questioning her.
Later, Sohel with the help of his associates Mithu and Biplob, tactfully took the girl to his home and violated her. Sohel allegedly threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone. Later, a case was filed with Savar Model Police Station against Sohel, Biplob, and Mithu.
