Hollywood actor Bruce Campbell, known for his roles in films such as ‘Evil Dead’ and ‘Spider-Man’, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a form of cancer that is “treatable, not curable,” prompting him to temporarily scale back professional commitments while undergoing treatment.
The 67-year-old star, widely celebrated for his cult horror legacy and self-styled “B-movie” persona, shared the news with fans in a candid post on X on Monday. Acknowledging the shock of the diagnosis, Campbell wrote that while the condition is manageable, it is not curable.
Referring to his health challenge as an “opportunity,” he noted that he would not disclose further medical details. However, he confirmed that upcoming public appearances, fan conventions and work engagements would take a back seat as he prioritises treatment over the coming months.
“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernie & Emma this fall,” he stated, signalling optimism about returning to public life once his health stabilises.
Campbell clarified that he was not seeking sympathy or medical advice but wanted to address the matter directly to prevent misinformation. Expressing confidence and resilience, he assured fans of his determination to continue fighting the illness, crediting a strong support system for keeping him grounded.
Campbell rose to international fame with his breakout performance as Ash Williams in The Evil Dead, directed by Sam Raimi. The cult classic spawned sequels including Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, cementing his status as a genre icon. He later reprised the role in the television spin-off Ash vs Evil Dead.
Beyond horror, Campbell made memorable cameo appearances in Spider-Man and its sequels, also directed by Raimi. He further demonstrated his range with the cult favourite Bubba Ho-tep, in which he portrayed an ageing Elvis Presley battling a supernatural threat.
