BNP candidates Rezaul Karim Badsha and Mahmudul Haque Rubel have been unofficially elected from Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies respectively, according to results announced by returning officers on Thursday night.
In the Bogura-6 by-election, Rezaul Karim Badsha, contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, secured 1,33,931 votes, defeating his nearest rival Jamaat-backed candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, who received 57,159 votes.
Bangladesh Development Party candidate Md Al-Amin Talukder got 499 votes in the constituency.
Bogura Senior District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Fazlul Karim said voter turnout in the by-election, including postal ballots, stood at 42.57 per cent.
The constituency has 4,50,307 registered voters, with 151 centres including postal ballots, 150 polling centres and 835 booths, where around 1,91,000 voters cast their ballots.
The Election Commission said voting was held peacefully from morning to afternoon.
In Sherpur-3, BNP candidate Mahmudul Haque Rubel, also contesting with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol, secured 1,66,117 votes.
His nearest rival Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Masudur Rahman, contesting with the Daripalla symbol, received 47,051 votes.
Socialist Party of Bangladesh Marxist candidate Md Mizanur Rahman got 480 votes.
Sherpur District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Jahangir Hossain said voter turnout in the constituency was 52.19 per cent, with 2,15,734 voters casting their votes.
He said the election was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, with only a few isolated incidents and no polling centres suspended.
In the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election held on February 12, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was elected from both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies.
He later vacated the Bogura-6 seat, prompting the by-election.
The Sherpur-3 election was deferred on February 3 following the death of Jamaat candidate Nuruzzaman Badal after the election schedule had been announced.
The Election Commission later announced fresh schedules for the two constituencies.
