BNP has filed three applications with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) seeking investigation and trial over the deaths of 3,299 party leaders, activists and supporters killed through enforced disappearances, crossfire incidents and during the July uprising under the Awami League regime.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam confirmed the matter to TIMES of Bangladesh on Monday evening. He said, “We have received the complaints. Necessary steps will be taken after scrutiny.”
BNP National Executive Committee member Md Salah Uddin Khan submitted the applications to the chief prosecutor. Salah Uddin also serves as coordinator for cases, disappearances, killings and data preservation.
Party sources said the first petition states that 2,276 people were killed between 2008 and 5 August 2024 in so‑called crossfire incidents, including 1,776 BNP members and affiliates. A complaint on these killings was earlier lodged on 8 January 2025.
The second petition refers to 175 enforced disappearances during the same period, with victims’ names and details submitted in an application on 24 August 2025.
Salah Uddin said families of victims continue to crowd BNP’s central office demanding justice and arrests, while party Chairman Tarique Rahman has instructed that justice be ensured.
The third petition alleges that 848 people were killed between 1 July and 5 August 2024 during the anti‑discrimination student movement by gunfire from law enforcement and what BNP calls the Awami League government’s “terror squads.”
At least 153 members of the BNP’s student wing and 373 BNP leaders, activists and supporters were among the dead. A complaint over these killings was filed on 12 February 2025.
Each petition urges the current Chief Prosecutor to take swift action and ensure justice.
