Unidentified assailants hacked to death the wife of a local BNP leader in Tangail’s Sadar upazila after failing to find him at home, police said Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Lili Akter, wife of SM Anisur Rahman, general secretary of Mogra Union BNP. The incident has created panic in the area.
According to witnesses, 4-5 masked attackers stormed into Quizbari Leon Bakery in Mogra Union on Tuesday night. When they did not find bakery owner Anisur Rahman, the assailants brutally attacked his wife, leaving her critically injured.
Locals rushed her to Tangail General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Tangail Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tanvir Ahmed said the body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. “We are investigating the motive behind the murder,” he added.
