BNP national executive committee member and Mymensingh division organising secretary Md Abu Wahab Akand Wahid has strongly criticized the political opponents , claiming that no matter how many times they bathe in the waters of the Ganges and Brahmaputra, their hearts will never be purified.

Speaking at a workers’ conference in Sherpur Union of Nandail upazila, Mymensingh on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Wahid expressed his disdain towards those he accused of hiding under the protection of saris and lungis for the past 17 years, while many BNP leaders and activists faced untold torture in their fight for democracy and voting rights.

“BNP is the party of the oppressed people of this country,” he said. “We have always been with the people and will continue to be. Many of our leaders and activists have faced unimaginable oppression for the sake of democracy and people’s rights.”

Wahid further emphasized that BNP is a party of freedom fighters and the common people. “The party has always been by the people’s side, and it will continue to stand with them,” he said.

Without naming any specific individuals, he also criticized certain party members, saying that some female activists of a particular party were going from village to village selling “tickets to heaven,” gifting sarees and cosmetics, while the party’s leaders were busy seeking political favors. “But the people of Bangladesh understand what the real ballot paper means, and they do not need to be misled by these tactics,” Wahid added.

Wahid, echoing BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s instructions, urged his party members to focus on the needs of the neglected sections of society. “We have been asked to spread out across the country, to be with the people, and assure them that BNP is standing by them,” he said.

He also called on party workers to prepare for the upcoming elections in February 2026. “Make sure every locality is energized and ready. Rally support for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol,” Wahid urged.

The workers’ conference, held in Sherpur Union, was chaired by BNP’s Nandail upazila convener and parliamentary aspirant, Yasir Khan Chowdhury. Several party leaders, including Nandail upazila BNP secretary Enamul Kadir, Joint convener Mizanur Rahman Liton, and other notable figures from the district’s youth wing, spoke at the event.
