A local leader of BNP was shot by miscreants in Keraniganj, Dhaka, on Thursday night. The victim, Hasan Molla, is the general secretary of Hazratpur Union BNP. He has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 9pm in front of Ward 9 BNP office in Jagannathpur village, Hazratpur Union, under the Keraniganj Model Upazila.
According to witnesses, a group of miscreants arriving on a motorcycle fired three to four rounds at Molla. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, after which the attackers quickly fled the scene.
Locals rescued the victim and initially took him to a local medical centre. As his physical condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Square Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Doctors have stated that his condition remains critical.
M Saiful Alam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station, confirmed the matter. Preliminary findings suggest that Molla was attacked in the Dhalikandi area while returning from a Waz (religious gathering).
The OC further stated that the police have initiated an investigation to identify attackers and determine the motive.
Officers have inspected the scene, collected CCTV footage, and are questioning those involved.
This incident follows several recent attacks on the BNP leadership. On the night of 8 January, Md Azizur Rahman Musabbir, the former general secretary of Swechchhasebak Dal Dhaka City North, was shot dead in West Tejturi Para, Dhaka. Another individual was also wounded in that shooting.
Prior to this, on 3 January, Alamgir Hossain, 35, the joint general secretary of Ward 7 BNP of Jashore Municipality, was killed by miscreants in the Shankarpur area.
On 20 November, 2025, Golam Kibria, the member secretary of Pallabi Thana Jubo Dal, was shot and killed; several suspects have since been arrested in connection with that case.
