BNP has expelled Sherpur district joint convener Md Shafikul Islam Masud for defying party directives and conducting organisational activities independently.
The decision was announced in a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday.
The statement said Masud had been removed from the party’s primary membership and all posts for breaching party discipline and acting against organisational instructions.
The development was also confirmed by Sherpur district BNP Member Secretary ABM Mamunur Rashid Palash.
Masud could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone was switched off.
A former president of the district units of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal, Masud had been serving as joint convener of the Sherpur district BNP.
He submitted his nomination as an independent candidate for the Sherpur-1 constituency, defying the party’s decision.
The BNP has nominated another district joint convener, Sunsila Jabrin Priyanka, as its candidate for the seat.
