A BNP delegation held a meeting with US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur on Thursday morning in Dhaka.
The meeting took place at the residence of the US ambassador in Gulshan, according to BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.
The five-member BNP delegation was led by the party’s Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan.
Other members of the delegation included Naoshad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayeba Yusuf and Nipon Roy Chowdhury.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Moyeen Khan said the United States has long been a friendly partner of Bangladesh and has extended support to the country in various ways in the past.
“With a new government in place, it is natural for US officials to visit and discuss the current situation in Bangladesh, our policies, future plans, and bilateral relations with different countries—particularly with the United States,” he said.
Responding to a question about whether any discussion took place regarding agreements signed with the United States, Moyeen Khan said such matters had already been discussed between the US and the government.
“They have discussed these issues with the government. The government may brief you on those discussions. Our talks today mainly focused on the relationship between the peoples of the two countries and on government policy matters,” he added.
