BNP has accused some parties of engaging in conspiratorial tactics to confuse the public ahead of the national election scheduled for 12 February. During the party’s election campaign on Wednesday, leaders urged the public not to be provoked.
“One party is making provocative statements and engaging in conspiratorial actions. We must not fall into these traps. The people will respond with their votes on the 12th,” said Mirza Abbas, BNP’s candidate for Dhaka-8, while participating in an election rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan.
He further said, “A party with no experience in governance is trying to tarnish BNP’s image. They have nothing to offer but are trying to enslave the people of Bangladesh forever. They aim to finish off BNP and, in doing so, destroy this country.”
On the same day, during an election rally for Dhaka-17, BNP’s election campaign chief coordinator and freedom fighter Abdus Salam said, “BNP does not politicise religion or the liberation war; we are a party focused on the welfare of the people.”
He also warned that attempts to confuse voters will intensify as the election draws closer.
Addressing the voters, Abdus Salam highlighted local issues such as roads and gas shortages, expressing optimism that, if Tarique Rahman is elected, roadworks would begin and problems in the area would be resolved.
He further claimed that Tarique Rahman’s governance would bring solutions to household issues across the region.
BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to visit Rajshahi after more than two decades. He will address an election rally at the city’s historic Madrasa ground on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Aminul Haque, BNP’s candidate for Dhaka-16 and former captain of the national football team, promised to ensure permanent rehabilitation for people in Kalshi and Mirpur, who have long been living in fear of eviction.
He also committed to building an inclusive, communal society in his constituency, where people from all religions and backgrounds can live harmoniously.
Speaking during his door-to-door campaign in Mirpur and Kalshi areas on Wednesday, Aminul claimed that members of Jamaat-e-Islami were violating the electoral code of conduct by collecting voter IDs and phone numbers under the guise of offering financial incentives. He asserted that he had video evidence of these violations and would lodge a formal complaint with the returning officer and the Election Commission.
BNP’s candidate for Dhaka-9, Habibur Rashid Habib, said, “The election on 12 February is not just another election. It is the result of sacrifices made for voting rights and democratic values in Bangladesh. The highest voter turnout will be the greatest tribute to the martyrs.”
Habib made these remarks during an election gathering at Khilgaon’s Jorpukurpar field in the capital.
