Prime Video has released the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099, bringing Ridley Scott’s iconic sci-fi franchise back to screens nine years after Blade Runner 2049, reports Variety.
The limited series stars Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh and Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer in the lead roles.
The story takes place after the events of the original Blade Runner and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, which saw Harrison Ford reprise his role as Rick Deckard alongside Ryan Gosling as replicant blade runner K.
In Blade Runner 2099, Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant confronting the end of her life, while Schafer portrays Cora, a human fleeing from Blade Runners.
The trailer shows the two joining forces as conflict intensifies between humans and replicants.
In one of the closing scenes, Olwen tells Cora, “The old world forever fights to come back.
Humans want what was taken from them. But it’s our time now.”
The cast also includes Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben as series regulars.
Recurring guest stars include Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim and Matthew Needham.
Production took place mainly at Prague’s Barrandov Studios in the Czech Republic, with additional filming in Barcelona. Film United handled production in Prague.
Silka Luisa, best known for Shining Girls, serves as the series’ showrunner and executive producer.
Ridley Scott returns as an executive producer alongside David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger of Scott Free Productions.
Jonathan van Tulleken, who directed episodes of Shōgun and Dope Thief, directed the first two episodes.
Blade Runner 2099 will premiere on Prime Video on 25 November.
