Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian contraband worth about Tk1,41,34,000 in separate raids across border areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla.
Acting on intelligence, patrol teams from border outposts under BGB Battalion 60 launched operations Wednesday in Moinpur, Chandidar, and Kasba of Brahmanbaria, and Saldanadi and Madla under Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla.
The seizures included Indian Basmati rice, sarees, soaps, cattle, chocolates, chilli seeds, Neurobion Forte tablets, shrimp fry, and cannabis.
BGB said legal action is underway. The goods will be handed over to customs, while drugs and other evidence will be disposed of under prevailing laws.
Lt Col SM Shariful Islam, commanding officer of Sultanpur Battalion, said the unit is implementing the director general’s directive to make BGB a “symbol of security and trust” at the borders.
He added that the battalion remains vigilant against smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal trafficking of women and children. Intelligence surveillance and operations have been intensified and drives against border crimes will continue.
