Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk307.65 crore during operations in border areas and other locations across country in June 2026.
The seized items included 5.592 kilograms of gold, 18,015 sarees, 3,252 pieces of clothing such as three-pieces, shirt pieces, shawls and blankets, 9,551 readymade garments, 189,018 cosmetic items and 1,754,543 fireworks.
The border force also recovered 7,464 cubic feet of timber, 7,316 kilograms of tea leaves, 4,270 kilograms of betel nuts, 101,776 kilograms of coal, 174,898 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 497 mobile phones, 1,865 mobile displays, 41,162 mobile parts and 15,056 electrical items.
Other seized goods included 52,736 kilograms of cumin, 4,285 kilograms of garlic, 18,798 kilograms of sugar, 10,224 kilograms of fertiliser, 1,141,169 shrimp fry, 3,282 litres of fuel and lubricants, including edible oil, diesel, octane, petrol and mobil, along with 2,276 packets of pesticides, 591,419 pieces of medicines and 694 kilograms of seeds.
BGB also seized 201 vehicles during the operations. The vehicles included 11 trucks or covered vans, five pickups, three private cars or buses, three tractors, 20 trolleys or microbuses, 68 CNGs, easy-bikes and auto-rickshaws, 35 motorcycles and 53 bicycles or vans. A total of 1,239 vehicle parts were also recovered.
In separate operations, BGB recovered arms and ammunition, including eight local and foreign-made pistols, one rifle, 16 magazines, 630 rounds of ammunition, two mines, six grenades and six other weapons.
Legal action was initiated after 212 suspected smugglers were arrested for involvement in smuggling and drug trafficking.
Besides, 47 Bangladeshi nationals, one Indian citizen and 284 Myanmar citizens were detained for attempting to cross the border illegally, the BGB said.
