Veteran Dhallywood filmmaker FI Manik has suffered serious injuries in a road accident in the capital.
The accident occurred on Monday night (6 July) near Hatirjheel Golchakkar after Manik crossed Begunbari intersection while heading towards his home in Niketan.
Filmmaker Arpup Rana confirmed the incident and said Manik was entering Niketan Road from the Hatirjheel area when a speeding vehicle hit him from behind.
The collision threw the director onto the road and caused serious injuries.
“From the initial assessment, it appears that Manik bhai has broken his left hand. He also has injuries and wounds in different parts of his body. We rescued him immediately and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” Arpup Rana said.
He added that doctors will determine the full extent of Manik’s injuries after completing the necessary tests. The reports will also reveal whether he suffered fractures in any other bones.
F I Manik made a significant contribution to Bangladeshi cinema, especially from the 1990s to the early 2010s. During this period, he directed several commercially successful and audience-favourite films.
His notable works include Shopner Bashor, Koti Takar Kabin, Chachchu and Dadima.
Apart from filmmaking, Manik also served as the general secretary of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Directors Association during the 2011-12 term.
