Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a consignment of Indian mobile phone components and medicines during special anti-smuggling operations along the Satkhira border on Friday. The estimated market value of the seized goods is Tk8.5 lakh.
The operations were conducted by various teams under the Kakdanga, Madra, and Jhaudanga Border Outposts (BOP) in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa Upazilas.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off, a special operational team from the Kakdanga BOP recovered Indian medicines from Keragachhi in Kalaroa Upazila. Simultaneously, a team from the Madra BOP seized Indian mobile phone parts from Rajpur in the same upazila.
In a separate raid, the Jhaudanga special camp team recovered further mobile phone components from Kamarbaisa in Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
However, the BGB personnel were unable to make any arrests as the smugglers fled the scene, abandoning the goods, after sensing the presence of the border guards.
BGB 33 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Kazi Ashikur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the seized items have been deposited with Satkhira Customs. He added that such BGB operations would continue in the public interest to prevent smuggling.
