Two police officers and a soldier from Myanmar were detained after entering Bangladesh through the Teknaf border to escape captivity by the Arakan Army (AA).
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members captured the men and handed them over to Teknaf Model Police Station around 10:30pm on Monday. The three were identified as Bein Day Tet, 38, Kyaw Naing, 35, and Thein Zaw, 33.
Md Saiful Islam, officer‑in‑charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying the trio crossed into Bangladesh on Sunday night.
They reportedly swam across the Naf River near Naityongpara in Teknaf Municipality, using plastic water jars as flotation devices.
During initial interrogation, the detainees said they were held hostage by the Arakan Army for nearly two years at the Kauyarbill camp.
They claimed to have escaped using “special tactics” before crossing the river to seek refuge.
OC Saiful Islam said preparations are underway to file a case under relevant laws. “Necessary measures will be taken following legal procedures and instructions from higher authorities,” he added.
Law enforcement sources said the men’s identities and statements are being verified. In response to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, the BGB has intensified surveillance along the border.
