Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Saiful Alam Khan Milon was elected in the Dhaka-12 constituency during the 13th parliamentary election, emerging victorious in a contest described as a “battle of three Saifuls.”
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury announced the results at his Segunbagicha office around 10:30am on Friday.
Saiful Alam secured 53,773 votes, while his nearest rival, Revolutionary Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque, received 30,963 votes.
The independent candidate received 29,869 votes. The administration said the election was held peacefully. There are a total of 333,320 voters in Dhaka-12, of whom 174,349 are men and 158,968 are women.
