A workshop titled “Tuber Crops: Current Situation and Future Prospects” was held at the seminar room of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Sunday.
The event was organised by the Tuber Crop Research Center of BARI, reads a press release.
The workshop discussed the current production status of tuber crops, research progress, productivity enhancement and future plans.
Speakers highlighted the importance of tuber crops in the country’s food security and agricultural economy, and emphasised the need to further develop the sector through research and the expansion of technology.
Director of the Tuber Crop Research Center Nirmal Kumar Dutta chaired the workshop, while Director General of BARI Md Manjurul Kadir attended as the chief guest.
BARI Director (Training and Communication) Reshma Sultana, Director (Research) Faruk Ahmed, Director (Support & Services Wing) Md Mosharraf Hossain Mollah, and Director (Planning and Evaluation Wing) Habib Mohammad Naser were present as special guests.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Project Director (TCRSP) and Chief Scientific Officer of the Tuber Crop Research Center Md Khorshed Alam.
Senior scientists and officials from various organisations also attended the workshop. The event was funded by the Tuber Crops Research Strengthening Project (TCRSP), BARI, Gazipur.
