Bangladeshi umpire Gazi Sohel will feature in the International League T20 (ILT20) in the United Arab Emirates, which begins on 2 December. Sohel, who has extensive experience umpiring in Bangladesh’s domestic competitions, including the Bangladesh Premier League, as well as in international matches such as the Asia Cup, will take on officiating duties in the UAE franchise tournament.
Gazi Sohel is one of Bangladesh’s prominent international umpires, and Bangladeshi officials have previously been involved in overseas tournaments and major events, including World Cups.
The ILT20 will also feature Bangladeshi star cricketers. Shakib Al Hasan has signed to play for MI Emirates, while Taskeen Ahmed has been drafted into the Sharjah Warriors squad. However, Taskeen’s participation in the full tournament remains uncertain as he is also contracted to play for Dhaka Capitals in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League, which is scheduled to start in mid-December.
The inclusion of Bangladeshi talent in both playing and officiating roles highlights the growing presence of Bangladesh in international franchise cricket.
