A Bangladeshi national was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Amjhol border in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat.
The victim was identified as Md Khademul, 25, son of Amjad Hossain from Uttar Amjhol village in Gotamari union.
Sources said Khademul, along with several others, attempted to cross the zero line into India around 2am Thursday near border pillar 905/6‑S.
As they approached the barbed wire fence, a patrol team from the 78 BSF Battalion’s Paglamari camp opened fire. Khademul was hit in the face, chest and head, the sources said.
His companions carried him back into Bangladesh in critical condition and rushed him to Rangpur for treatment. He died there in the morning while under medical care.
Family members said his body is being brought back to his village.
BGB’s 15-battalion in Lalmonirhat confirmed the incident but said no flag meeting with BSF has yet been called.
