A Bangladeshi-Canadian community leader has thrown her hat into the ring for a seat on the Toronto city council.
Sharmina Nasrin has formally announced her candidacy for the position of City Councillor for Ward 20, Scarborough Southwest, in the upcoming Toronto municipal election.
Nasrin, who has long been involved in public policy, community development, and public engagement activities, has pledged to represent the interests of local residents.
As part of her election campaign, Nasrin has emphasised increasing direct communication with citizens, improving public service quality, building a safe and liveable community, promoting youth participation, and protecting the interests of the multicultural community.
“Ensuring that the voices of the people reach City Hall will be my main pledge,” she said.
