The 35th edition of the Bangladesh World Tennis Tour Junior J-30 is set to begin this Saturday, 10 October, at the National Tennis Complex in Ramna, Dhaka. The tournament will see 75 junior players from 12 countries compete across boys’ and girls’ categories.
The competition will open with the qualifying rounds, with sign-in scheduled for 10 October. Matches in the qualifiers will be played on 11 and 12 October, followed by the main draw from 13 October, where the key fixtures will take place.
In the boys’ category, 25 players will compete in the qualifiers, with 10 advancing to join 22 others in the main draw. The girls’ main draw will feature 27 players in total.
A press conference was held at the Tennis Federation conference room to share details of the event. Speaking at the event, Tennis Federation General Secretary Ishteak Ahmed Karen described the tournament as a new chapter for tennis in Bangladesh. He expressed optimism that junior players would gain valuable experience by competing against international talent.
Participating nations include host Bangladesh, as well as Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Maldives, Singapore, Thailand and the United States.
Bangladesh’s Masfia Afrin, an ITF White Badge Level 2 official, will serve as the tournament referee.
The event is sponsored by Suzuki Motorbikes, Bank Asia and Dana Petroleum Ltd. Representatives from the sponsors, including Taimur Ali, Head of Brand and Communication at Bank Asia, and Brand Manager Imran Sami, were present at the press conference.
Also attending were M A Jinnah, Treasurer of the Tennis Federation, and Zaien Omar, Chair of the BTF Training, Selection and Development Sub-Committee.
