Bangladesh Women returned to winning ways on Monday in Bangkok, beating Nepal 3-0 in their third match of the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship through control, composure and ruthless finishing.
The result mattered after a frustrating draw against Bhutan. It restored momentum and strengthened Bangladesh’s grip on the title race.
Bangladesh set the tone early and controlled the ball with intent. They pressed high, moved the ball quickly and forced Nepal into mistakes.
Captain Sabina Khatun opened the scoring and once again drove the team forward. She now has four goals in three matches and continues to define Bangladesh’s attacking edge.
Krishna Rani Sarkar doubled the lead with pure quality. She killed the ball dead, created space and smashed a long-range shot beyond the goalkeeper.
Both Sabina and Krishna remain central figures despite their absence from the national football set-up. The distance with British coach Peter Butler has pushed them towards futsal, and Bangladesh are clearly benefiting.
Bangladesh kept their foot on the pedal after the break. They attacked in waves and stretched Nepal’s defence until it creaked.
Nepal’s goalkeeper worked overtime but could not stop Lipi Akter’s powerful strike. A sharp free-kick routine saw Sumaiya tee her up, and Lipi drove the ball home from outside the box.
At the other end, goalkeeper Jhili stood firm when Nepal finally broke through. Her sharp reactions preserved the clean sheet and underlined Bangladesh’s control.
Bangladesh began the tournament by beating India 3-1 before drawing 3-3 with Bhutan. This win takes them to seven points from three matches and places the title firmly within reach.
Seven teams are competing in both the women’s and men’s futsal events, with the top team after six matches crowned champions. Bangladesh Women next face Sri Lanka on Wednesday, knowing another strong display could decide everything.
