Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed ways to strengthen trade and business relations and expand cooperation in key sectors, including investment, education and the blue economy.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Adviser Humayun Kabir held a bilateral meeting with Sir Chris Bryant MP, the UK Minister of State for Trade, in London, the Bangladesh High Commission in London said on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of unlocking investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s blue economy and expanding the global reach of the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ brand.
They also discussed the need to protect investor interests, enhance collaboration in the education sector and strengthen cooperation in multilateral platforms.
The two sides agreed to remain in close contact ahead of the 14th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, scheduled to take place in Cameroon later this month.
Separately, UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster DBE met Khalilur Rahman and Humayun Kabir at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. Their discussions focused on possible cooperation in the aviation sector and steps to develop Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub.
The Bangladesh delegation also held two separate meetings aimed at advancing the country’s aviation sector.
Meanwhile, Professor Dapo Akande, the United Kingdom’s candidate for a judgeship at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term, met the Bangladeshi leaders and presented his candidature.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction over existing cooperation between Bangladesh and the UK in various multilateral forums and intergovernmental elections.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration in international legal and diplomatic arenas, including support for advancing women’s leadership.
