Saif scored 80 off 72 balls with six fours and six sixes, while Soumya made 91 off 86 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes. Their partnership gave Bangladesh a flying start on a turning surface, where batting was far from easy.
After their dismissals, the scoring rate slowed down. Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to rebuild but struggled to keep the momentum going. Hridoy made 28 from 44 balls, and Shanto added 44 from 55 deliveries.
From a commanding 252 for 3, Bangladesh slipped to 261 for 7 – a typical late-innings collapse. The middle order failed to capitalize on the strong platform, losing wickets in clusters against the West Indies spinners.
Nurul Hasan Sohan provided a late flourish, scoring an unbeaten 16 off 8 balls to push Bangladesh to 296 for 8. His quick cameo ensured the hosts finished with a competitive total on a pitch that continued to assist turn throughout the innings.
The innings once again showed both Bangladesh’s promise and vulnerability. Saif and Soumya’s brilliant stand set the stage, but the middle order collapse prevented an even bigger total. Still, with nearly 300 runs on the board, Bangladesh have a brilliant total to defend on the spin-friendly Mirpur surface.
