Bangladesh possesses strong potential for further economic growth through enhanced cooperation and private-sector-led development, United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen said on Wednesday.
The ambassador made the remarks while attending the 20th anniversary celebration of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) as the Guest of Honour at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.
He also noted that the recently signed treaty between the United States and Bangladesh will be beneficial for the country.
The event brought together distinguished diplomats, business leaders, academics, media representatives, and civil society members. It began with the national anthem, followed by a presentation showcasing IBFB’s 20-year journey and its continued efforts to promote a better business environment in Bangladesh through research, policy dialogue, and advocacy.
In her welcome address, IBFB President Lutfunnisa Saudia Khan highlighted the organisation’s key achievements over the past two decades and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening public-private dialogue for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The programme was also attended by ambassadors and high commissioners from Türkiye, Nepal, Oman, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, and the Maldives, as well as the Chargé d’Affaires of Singapore, the deputy chief of mission of the Embassy of Japan, and other dignitaries.
Also present were IBFB Founding President Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Past President Hafizur Rahman Khan, Immediate Past President Humayun Rashid, International Republican Institute (IRI) Resident Program Director John Fluharty, and FBCCI Administrator Abdul Rahim Khan.
The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, cultural performances, a group photo session, and dinner. Participants appreciated IBFB’s continued role as a credible, non-partisan platform dedicated to advancing Bangladesh’s business and investment climate.
