In the first 17 days of the current month (December), Bangladesh received remittances worth $2.007 billion, or $2 billion and 7 million.
On average, remittances of $118.1 million have arrived in country each day during this period.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan gave this information on Thursday.
He said remittances worth $2.007 billion came into the country in the first 17 days of December, compared to $1.76 billion during the same period last year, indicating a year-on-year increase in remittance inflows.
He further said expatriates sent $177 million in remittances to the country on 17 December alone.
From July to 17 December of the current fiscal year, total remittance inflows amounted to $15.045 billion, marking a year-on-year growth of 16.70 percent.
Earlier, remittances worth $2.88952 billion were received in November, the highest monthly inflow in the current fiscal year.
In October and September, the country received remittances of $2.56348 billion and $2.68588 billion respectively.
In August and July, remittance inflows stood at $2.42189 billion and $2.4780 billion respectively.
Meanwhile, throughout the 2024–25 fiscal year, expatriates sent $30.32 billion, or $30.328 billion, in remittances to the country, marking the highest annual remittance inflow in Bangladesh’s history.
