The International Cricket Council’s annual ODI rankings update has left Bangladesh in ninth place but with an improved rating, while the most notable movement in the top 10 saw South Africa overtake Pakistan to claim fourth position.
India remain at the summit despite losing one rating point, sitting on 118. New Zealand hold second place on 113, with world champions Australia third on 109.
South Africa were the biggest movers in the top five, gaining four points to reach 102 and climb to fourth. Pakistan paid the price, dropping four points to fall to fifth on 98. The two sides have effectively swapped positions from the previous update.
Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and England occupy sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, with ratings of 96, 93 and 89.
Bangladesh stay ninth, as expected, but their rating has risen by one point to 84. The gap between Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s side and 10th-placed West Indies has widened considerably, with the Caribbean side losing three points to drop to 74, leaving Bangladesh 10 points clear.
Further down the rankings, Ireland moved up to 11th by overtaking Zimbabwe, while the United States climbed to 13th after leapfrogging Scotland. The United Arab Emirates rose to 19th, surpassing Canada in the process.
