Vietnam seized control early and never loosened their grip, storming into a 3-0 half-time lead against Bangladesh with ruthless efficiency on Thursday. The damage unfolded inside 45 minutes, driven by set-piece chaos, defensive confusion, and a killer counter.

The opener arrived on eight minutes and screamed avoidable. A simple corner spiralled into panic as goalkeeper Srabon failed to claim, then Zayyan, under pressure, sliced the clearance into his own net. That moment handed Vietnam belief and exposed Bangladesh’s fragility under aerial pressure.

Bangladesh tried to respond with a higher press, but Vietnam simply played around it. They moved the ball quicker, sharper, and with far more purpose, forcing Bangladesh into reactive defending rather than controlled pressing.

The second goal underlined that imbalance. Another set piece, another lapse. Pham Xuan Manh attacked space while Shakil Ahad Topu hesitated, caught between markers, and Vietnam punished the indecision on 18 minutes.

Bangladesh finally showed a flicker of intent after that blow. Sohel and Fahim both pulled the trigger from range, testing D.V. Lam, but those efforts felt like low-percentage gambles rather than crafted openings. Vietnam’s structure never wobbled.

Then came the killer punch on 38 minutes. Bangladesh pushed numbers forward, lost shape, and Vietnam sprang forward on the break. Nguyễn Hai Long finished the move with authority, capping a transition that sliced through a disorganised back line.

Srabon did produce a few sharp saves, but he also fed the instability. His hesitation on crosses and uncertain handling kept inviting pressure, while the defensive line in front of him never settled into a cohesive unit.
