Bangladesh returned to the top of the podium in Asian archery, winning gold in the compound men’s team event after defeating Vietnam in the final in Bangkok on Friday.
The trio of Himu Bachar, Rakib Newaz and Oishwarya produced a composed display to secure a 231–225 victory, finishing six points clear of their opponents to seal the title.
The success comes despite a largely disappointing campaign in other categories. Bangladesh had travelled with high expectations but failed to reach the semi-finals in individual and mixed events. Their only breakthrough came in the compound men’s team event — and they made it count in emphatic fashion.
Historically, most of Bangladesh’s archery achievements have come in the recurve discipline, including Abdur Rahman Alif’s gold in the men’s individual event last year. However, increased focus on compound archery has now delivered results, marking a significant step forward for the discipline in the country.
Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, president of both the Bangladesh Archery Federation and the Asian Archery Federation, had earlier announced financial rewards for medal winners, adding further significance to the achievement.
